louisville slugger baseball Bat?
I have a Mickey Mantle Louisville Slugger that was my father's when he played baseball. Midway through the barrel before the sweet spot it says "Louisville Slugger 125 Hillerich & Bradsby Co. Made in USA Louisville Kentuck. Above that I think it says something like "Flame Tempered." My father said he got it between the late 60's and early mid 70's. It says "MM5" on the Knob of the bat. Is there any way I can figure out exactly what year it is?

The Louisville Exogrid has been a popular baseball bat for the last three years. When introduced, it had a unique design that separated it from the pack.
Louisville is a strong proponent of the stiff handle. Their material says "the last thing you want at the moment of contact is for your bat handle to flex thus the barrel can not. A stiff handle produces more barrel flex, resulting in maximum trampoline effect and greater performance." The Exogrid is marketed as the premier stiff handle bat in their arsenal because of its design.
The Exogrid is a one piece bat with the trademark Louisville stiff handle. What makes it unique is that metal is trimmed from the handle in a grid pattern to reduce the overall handle weight. The metal is replaced with carbon inserts that are supposed to be several times stronger and lighter than the metal replaced. This is supposed to increase the handle stiffness (even for a Louisville bat) and strength without increasing the weight.
The concept of the Exogrid technology is to increase handle stiffness without increasing weight. Here is the process. They start with a one-piece aluminum bat. Then they trim metal from the handle in a grid pattern, and insert carbon deposits. A carbon sleeve with unidirectional fibers is then inserted that runs the length of the handle. Then it is all bonded with extreme heat and pressure. The idea of this technology is to strengthen the handle, without increasing the weight of the bat. In the end you have an extremely strong and stiff one-piece bat.
